Gastler Farm is home to Kalmia Garden Chamber Music and Arts Foundation. A working farm for the past 100 years, its history has spanned produce, chickens, a locally famous pansy cultivation, and ornamental nursery stock.
Today, organic vegetable, herb, flower and ornamental gardens are lined by stone walls and walking paths throughout the farm, where native wild flowers are encouraged to thrive.
A beautiful natural setting to enjoy an afternoon of music, Gastler Farm also provides a welcome environment for our musicians to escape from distraction and delve into their art. Musicians make the farm their home for the weeks prior to each performance.
The mid-19th century farm house that has housed four generations of the Gastler family, now hosts musicians, concerts, creative exploration and a cultural asset to our region.
Tim Gastler seen above-left, is a retired third generation family farmer. His artistic vision and enthusiasm for the beauty of Durham has transformed this humble space into a serene and quiet oasis above a busy road. Tim perfectly embodies both the unfussy aesthetic and relaxed hospitality of our old New England town.
